Hi folks,
I do hope this finds you well, I have decided to take a couple of months off for the summer to catch up on the many things that need doing in RL. (Real Life) so this is the last time I will be writing for a while.
Monday evening (UK Time), Sunwolf and I managed to catch most of Mamaa's set before we were due on stage. We love to hear Mamaa and get to his shows whenever we can.
Our set went OK and we were followed by Whirli Placebo, who's sets are always different every time you hear him but always brilliant.
Tuesday, We managed to catch most of Cailidgh Spires at the Drunken Drow. She had been away for several weeks so it was nice to hear her again.
Our set passed like the blink of a eye, and we spent the next hour just chatting to friends as Beth, who was due to play next had not shown up.
We then went over to Streaming Falls to see Quinton Whitman play, this is a performer we can never hear too often, and even though his show did not start till midnight UK time it was worth staying on line for the extra hour.
Before we began running our pub, we had spent quite a bit of time venue hoping and it was nice to be free enough to be able to do that again.
Gweeb at Galaxia
Wednesday, we went to a new place, Laid Back Celt and his SL wife Stinna Celt have recently opened their own venue called Galaxia and if you like that outer space feel then you will love this place. We got on line a bit late, but we managed to catch the last bit of a set Stinna was performing, she sounded as good as ever.
Stinna was followed by Gweeb, and I have said enough about this talented performer in the past that I am sure you all know by now how good he is.
After Galaxia, we nipped over to Surfside Hideaway to have a listen to Lazarus Doghouse. It seemed strange seeing him there as we had only ever caught him at Guthries before. His unusual and unique way of performing songs is not to be missed.
I then went on to Lavender Fields with a friend, to have a listen to Madmax Huet. I had not heard this London Blues Player before, he played nice sounds, but I was unable to stay till the end as once again RL caught up with me.
Thursday was day for RL and logging on was not an option, there was simply just too much to do and we were kept busy till quite late that evening.
Friday saw Wolf n Hawk playing our usual set at Guthries, which incidentally was sporting a poster at the back of the stage commemorating 100 years of the Guthrie Foundation, so congratulations to them, long may they continue. To my mind you can not beat the sound of music made just with artists and instruments without embellishments or backing tracks of any kind. For me, it sounds so much more real than the slick over produced stuff you hear on the radio these days, music made just to sell for money more often than not by folks hoping to get rich from it The true richness in my opinion comes from the people who sit before you and dare to share who they are in the performance that they give, I love and thank them for it.
We stayed on at Guthrie's as we usually do to hear Moses Rae, Lazarus and Quinton. All varying styles and all well worth hanging around for.
Friday evening I went off with a Friend to Ronnie and Anna's place, The Crown and Anchor. Sunwolf was busy in RL but he was able to hear the music and had to be contented with that.
Franck Molko played one of his lovely gentle sets and he was followed by Bronze8020 who seems to have the knack of playing all the songs I really enjoy. I love to hear this guy.
Saturday, saw us back at Galaxia. We just caught the last of a set LB was doing before Quinton Whitman took the stage. As Cuddlers Cove, one of our most favourite haunts on a Saturday is closed for the Summer it was good to be able to get out Quinton Saturday Fix courtesy of Galaxia.
That man, the Gweebster was following Quinton and gave a wonderful show in spite of being hampered at one point by a griefer who was trying to knock him all round the venue. LB soon had that under control and the aforementioned idiot was ejected. I will not dwell on this as these people are to my mind attention seeking kill joys and the best way to handle them is get rid of them them ignore them, I just wish it could be that simple in RL sometimes.
Sunday was another day devoted to RL concerns and that brings me up to date.
As I said at the beginning of this blog, I will not be writing for a few weeks now but Wolf n Hawk will still be playing, so I hope to see some of you around the music scene.
I hope you all have a good Summer.
Wishing you long warm days and enough leisure time to enjoy it.
